Occasionally weep deeply over the life you hoped would be. Grieve the losses. Then wash your face. Trust God. And embrace the life you have. – John Piper
We’ve all had plans for our lives. At one point or another, most of us have had those plans thrown out the window due largely to circumstances beyond our control. In the aftermath we’ve often felt like we’re clutching at straws in the middle of what seems to be a never-ending whirlwind.
Embracing the current
My plans went out the window years before I relocated to another country. My career hit a brick wall soon after university and it feels like it’s been a downward spiral since then. Whilst I have much to be grateful for, I’m not sure what to make of the trajectory I’m currently on. I wonder what went wrong, what I could have done differently and what to do now.
Frankly, however, the present and the future are not nearly as bleak as I make them out to be right now, and neither am I often depressed by my lost plans. Today is simply one of those days that I’m grieving the life I hoped would be. Tomorrow I will wash my face, trust God and embrace the life I have.
